3 Things To Consider Before Planning A Destination Wedding

If you’ve recently become engaged, you’re likely thinking about your future wedding for a big portion of your day. In these thoughts, you may have wondered if a destination wedding might be a good option for you and your future spouse. But while traveling somewhere fun and exotic can be exciting, it also can present certain challenges that a traditional wedding won’t typically have.

To help you in making the right decision for you and your future family, here are three things to consider before planning a destination wedding.

How Involved You Want To Be In The Planning Process

Depending on how involved you want to be in all of the details of your wedding, a destination wedding may or may not be what you’d want to go with.

Because most people only go to the destination for their actual wedding, there isn’t time for you to plan out all of the little details yourself. Rather, you have to find someone within the city or at the venue to plan everything for you. For some people, this can be a big relief. But if you have very particular dreams about how you want your wedding to look and have always wanted to take care of the planning yourself, this may not be easy or even possible for you if you have a destination wedding.

How It Will Impact Your Guests

Another thing to think about with a destination wedding is how the travel required might affect the people that you want to be there for you on your special day.

For some people in your wedding party and on your guest list, traveling somewhere far away might be a welcomed trip for them, too. But for others, the expense may be too much for them to take on. Additionally, if you want your grandparents to be there, traveling away from their home or assisted living facility might not be a possibility due to their health. So if there are specific people that you really want to be at your wedding, make sure they’d be able to still come if you choose a destination wedding.

What Unexpected Complications May Crop Up

While it’s always wise to expect the unexpected when planning a wedding, especially as your date gets closer, this is something that you’ll really have to come to terms with if you’re planning to have a destination wedding.

Just as with all kinds of travel, a destination wedding can have complications with things like weather, licenses, sickness, schedule changes, and more. So while it’s good to hope for the best, you may want to have a few contingency plans in place, just in case things don’t go how you envisioned them.

If you’ve been thinking about planning a destination wedding, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you determine if this is a good fit for you.
